The denial that racism lives in the mainstream of society, or that it even exists as a serious problem, is perhaps the biggest obstacle that its opponents face. Too often, racism is dismissed or overlooked. It is marginalised, even when the world is bursting at the seams with racism crises: the ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya in Myanmar, the rise of the far right in the European Union, Brexit, Donald Trump, to name but a few.
Fortunately, sophisticated academic research on racism has exploded over the last two decades. Journals, books, research networks, and meetings provide the intelligence that the world needs to see racism, and analyse it.
Yet most of this intelligence is not available to the general public, or the policy communities that so desperately need it, around the world.
